My Mini Magnificent Miracle
A miracle has been defined as "an extraordinary event manifesting divine intervention in human affairs" by Mirriam-Webster Dictionary. The Oxford Learner's Dictionary states that a miracle is "an act or event that does not follow the laws of nature and is believed to be caused by God." The Collins Dictionary describes a miracle as "an effect or extraordinary event in the physical world that surpasses all known human or natural powers and is ascribed to a supernatural cause." All of these definitions point to an event that cannot be explained by human reasoning or the laws of nature. Something that only God could have performed. The Bible is full of miracles that God used to show His power and love, and today I wanted to share something that happened to me a couple weeks ago that falls into that category.
I am calling this event "My Mini Magnificent Miracle." I chose "Mini" because it wasn't something that is going to change the course of world history or even seem important to most people. Books won't be written about what happened, and I won't be interviewed by any morning shows. In fact, other than me, the world went on as usual without even knowing anything unusual had happened. Having said that, I am calling it "Magnificent" because, well, it was magnificent to me. Not so much what happened but that it happened. The fact that God intervened on my behalf in an unexplainable way. I've thought about it and replayed it in my mind multiple times, and each time, all I can do is shout praises to God...in my heart, that is. I wouldn't want to scare my family if I started shouting, "Hallelujah!" from my recliner. Finally, it's "My Miracle." God did something just for me that is totally unexplainable by any human reasoning. So, are you curious to know what happened? Well, I wish you were here so I could reenact it in person, but I'll have to let these pictures help give you a visual idea.
The other night my husband, one of our sons, and I were downstairs. My husband, Bob, mentioned that he would like some chocolate chip cookies, so I offered to make some and made my way out to the kitchen.
After I had the first tray ready, I used my walker to make my way over to the oven.

After I put the tray of cookies in the oven, I carried an empty tray back over to the counter without using my walker since it was only a couple steps.
I glanced over at my walker, and I remember thinking to myself, "I'll have to be careful when I go over to get that so I don't fall." It was six or seven feet away from me, which may not seem far to you, but it looks like a wide chasm to me!😊

I turned to the counter and began filling the tray with cookies.

I stood and stared at it in amazement for a few seconds and then went back into the living room and told Bob, "I think I've just been visited by an angel!" Of course, he wanted an explanation, so I took him out to the kitchen and reenacted what had just happened. My daughter came down from upstairs, and I reenacted it for her, too. I was pretty excited!😁 There were a couple of theories that we had fun with. I said that my guardian angel probably thought it was much easier to move my walker over to me than to have to try to catch me when I fell. My daughter said he was moving it out of his way to get to the cookies. 😄
I said earlier that miracles are events that defy all human logic or natural laws. I have replayed this event over in my mind many, many times, and there is no other explanation than to say it was a miracle. No one else was in the kitchen. I never heard a sound. There is no possible way it could have rolled. It would have had to slide sideways. I had specifically thought about the fact that I would need to be cautious when I went to try and get it.
I also mentioned that God uses miracles to show His power and His love. My "Mini Magnificent Miracle" wasn't necessarily a revelation of God's great power, but, wow, did it shout of His love to me. Just that He would intercede in such a small, personal way makes me feel His presence in a new and exciting way. There have been other events in my life that I am sure were orchestrated by Him, but this was, without a doubt, something that could have happened no other way. Other events could arguably have happened within the scope of human reason, however farfetched, like saying, "You just happened to be in the right place at the right time." But this, I can explain no other way than to say, "It was a miracle!"
So, why do I share this rather insignificant event with you? And why am I so excited about it? I guess because I want to give praise to my God for His love for me, and to remind you that no matter what life holds for you, God loves you, too. You might argue that if God really wanted to show His love for me, He would have healed me so I wouldn't need the walker at all. The truth is, He warned us that this world would have difficulties. The fact that death, disease, and trials are a part of our lives is a result of living in this world. And, yes, He could heal me if He chooses, but right now, He chooses to walk with me through the trial, so there is no place I would rather be than with Him no matter how difficult.
I live with the knowledge that at some point I will fall, and because of my medication, a fall will likely result in broken bones. When I turned around and saw my walker, it was a reminder that my times are in God's hands. It was obviously not the time for me to fall yet, and the thought that God intervened in my life at that moment gives me the faith to trust that no matter what I face today, I can face it with the confidence that since God did not stop it, He must have allowed it to use it in some way to conform me more into His image. And, you can trust Him, too, whatever you may be facing. The effects of living in a sinful world can be painful, but God can redeem any circumstance and turn it to good, just as He did in the life of Joseph.
So, be on the lookout for mini miracles. You never know when God might send one your way! I sure never expected anything like that to happen when I went out to make cookies.
As a sidenote, when I took these pictures, I had to make a new batch of cookies. So now I'm going to surprise my husband with a plate of hot, gooey, fresh-from-the-oven chocolate chip cookies, and the fact that he didn't even have to ask for them will probably be his own mini miracle!😁
